Professor David Miles, who was the keynote speaker at Credit Services Association's (CSA) UK Credit & Collections Conference (UKCCC) 2021, has been nominated for appointment to the Budget Responsibility
Committee (BRC) of the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) by Chancellor Rishi Sunak.
The OBR is the UK's official independent fiscal watchdog, responsible for examining and report on the sustainability of public finances. The BCR has executive
responsibility for the core functions of the OBR and is responsible for judgements reached in OBR economic and fiscal forecasts.
Currently Professor of Financial Economics at Imperial College London, Professor David Miles provided delegates
at UKCCC 2021 hosted by CSA in Newcastle on 9 September, with an overview of the economic context as a result of the pandemic and his predictions for the year ahead, including specific implications for household finances impacting the collections and
debt purchase sector.
Rishi Sunak said: "A highly respected economist, Professor Miles brings a variety of academic and professional expertise which will only strengthen the existing independent and authoritative analysis of the OBR." Professor
Miles added: "I am very pleased that the Chancellor has nominated me to join the BRC. The work of the Committee is of great importance as the UK faces exceptional challenges after the coronavirus outbreak."
Subject to approval by the Treasury
Committee, Professor Miles will start in the role on 1 January 2022, replacing Professor Sir Charles Bean who is due to step down at the end of his five-year term.
