CSA membership benefits

CSA membership is a cost-effective way to enhance your business’ credibility. The CSA has extensive knowledge of the industry and offer members guidance, staff training and events throughout the year.

One main reason why companies are members of our Association is the accreditation that comes with it - through membership you are recognised as an organisation that upholds a high standard of quality in our industry.

Compliance, guidance and access to the CSA Member Zone

CSA Members can register as many additional members of staff that they wish in order to grant them access to the CSA Member Zone area of the CSA website.

This exclusive member-only area contains a wealth of documents, guidance, event materials and other membership benefits.

Content includes guidance on:

  • Key considerations
  • Regulator updates
  • Consumer Duty
  • Collections practices
  • Data protection/cybersecurity
  • Complaints
  • Debt management & vulnerability
  • Debt advice
  • Financial crime
  • Plus more...

The Member Zone also includes an archive of:

  • Consultation responses
  • Compliance Roundup updates
  • Event materials (including audio recordings, slides and notes)
  • CSA Review digital newsletter

Additional compliance support

The CSA also offers members compliance-related support, such as assisting with any specific queries, providing feedback on complaints received and raising issues with the FCA (and other regulators) when required.

Lobbying and consultations

As the voice of the collections and purchase industry, the CSA works extremely hard to communicate member views to key stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and government, with the aim of making legislation and regulation less burdensome and more proportionate for members, and enhancing awareness of the work that members do.

Our engagement with these stakeholders is often accomplished through direct meetings, where we will raise concerns, lobby for change and fight to shape regulation so that it does not prohibit members.

We also achieve these aims through responding to public consultations, where we will set out the concerns of members and highlight the action we believe should be taken. We encourage all members to have their say and alert us to any issues you feel need to be addressed.

Events

The CSA holds a selection of events throughout the year, ranging from the free monthly online Virtual Members' Meetings to member-exclusive Regulation Roundtables, from specialist workshops (with discounted rates for CSA Members) to dedicated meetings for DCAs, buyers, law groups etc.

  • Virtual Members' Meetings
Regular online meetings discussing latest industry development and updates from the CSA.
  • Regulation Roundtables
An opportunity for CSA Members to discuss key compliance issues, exchange best practice and concerns, and collaborate on potential solutions. Topics covered can range from major compliance projects, like Consumer Duty, through to common day-to-day challenges, such as dealing with CMCs and forum template letters or different options for carrying out quality assurance. Members can come away with new insights (e.g. a regulatory development they may have overlooked; a solution to a problem another member had already faced), new industry connections, and even just reassurance that they are encountering similar challenges. And unlike the monthly CSA Virtual Members' Meetings, the agenda of the Roundtables are shaped by our members through submitting topic requests ahead of the meeting.
  • Specialist workshops
Past meetings include Consumer Duty sessions, communicating effectively with the Financial Ombudsman Service and building resilience.
  • CSA Supplier Member webinars
A series of free webinars presented by CSA Supplier Members to demonstrate their products and services.

Email updates & social media

Members of the CSA receive a regular schedule email updates covering key areas such as compliance, industry and Association news and events. Additional member communications are also distributed as required.

Regular email communications include:

  • Weekly CSA Compliance Roundup
  • Weekly CSA News update
  • Event news

CSA Members can sign-up as many members of staff that they wish to receive communications, and email subscription preferences can be tailored to suit the needs of each contact.

The CSA also has social media channels:

Training

CSA Learning logo

As well as being a well-established industry trade body, the CSA* is also an award-winning learning and development specialist and an Approved Apprenticeship Training Provider. It supports its member firms, and employers in wider sectors to train, improve and assess their workforces in our specialist areas of credit, collections, compliance, counter-fraud, and debt advice. Our mission is to ensure that professionals working in our industry and related sectors have access to the best quality, up-to-the-minute training and development opportunities.

In 2017, we became an Approved Apprenticeship Training Provider, and our employer and apprentice feedback reviews are listed as “Excellent” and "Good" on the gov.uk website for apprenticeships**. in 2022 we received a 'Good' rating from Osted for our apprenticeship training provision.

We champion collections and debt purchase as a highly regarded profession that offers attractive and rewarding career opportunities for all.

We also offer the Collector Accreditation Initiative (CAI), an affordable online test to assess debt collectors’ knowledge and scope of understanding of compliance, enabling firms to mitigate regulatory risks and uphold the high standards of the CSA Code of Practice.

The Collections Learning Initiative (CLI) is an affordable and effective way to upskill collections staff at all levels, giving them instant, convenient access to high quality, flexible virtual training materials tailored to the needs of the individual and the business.

Samaritans logo

Working with Samaritans, CSA launched a short free online learning module aimed at helping debt collection agencies give their frontline staff the latest tips and advice about how to appropriately conduct sensitive conversations with individuals in vulnerable circumstances.

The ‘Supportive Listening’ module is being made available to CSA member firms free of charge and complements the existing CSA Collector Learning Initiative, which helps all collections firms throughout the sector to update skills across a range of relevant topics.
