Help with your debt

As the voice of the collections industry, our vision is to build confidence in debt collection by making the process clear, easy-to-understand and less stressful for all those involved. The following page brings together a range of resources and information designed to help individuals better understand their situation, access support, and explore the options available to them when dealing with debt.

#heretohelp

Our #heretohelp campaign aims to give people in financial difficulty the confidence to engage early with CSA members. It also warns against the risks of using the internet and “online experts” when it comes to getting money advice.

As part of the campaign, we produced a video, interviewing real life customers of debt collection companies and several industry experts to deliver a reassuring message that early contact will always result in a better outcome.

Five steps to help you with your #debt

Building on our #heretohelp campaign, this video explains the importance of engaging with the banks or lender a customer owes money to and urges them to be open and honest when discussing their situation even before a debt collection agency (DCA) becomes involved.

The debt collection process

When an individual has an outstanding balance on a loan, store card or bills, a debt collection agency (DCA) may be used by a creditor (a bank, a utility company, a phone company) to attempt to find a solution.

There may also be cases where a debt is sold by the creditor to another company called a debt purchase company. When this happens, the same process applies, the debt purchase company will get in touch with the customer to try and set up a repayment plan.
