Apprenticeship Levy - 20% off-the-job training – no change in this requirement
There are a variety of views on the stringent requirement to ensure that apprentices undertake at least 20% off-the-job training during the course of their apprenticeship. This is equivalent of course to one day a week. For the majority of our apprenticeships learners are studying, attending workshops, completing assignments, receiving coaching and tutor support, taking exams and submitting formal assignments. Some take one day per week out of the workplace, others may spread their off-the-job throughout the week.
All learners keep a monthly log of all their training and learning activity. We are also working on models with employers for recruiting new staff into the business where we are providing significant percentage of off-the-job training at the beginning of the apprenticeship. If the 20% rule is a concern for you or holding you back from getting involved with apprenticeships, we would be happy to discuss how the arrangements might work for your organisation.
